Cancer of the prostate is the second most common type of cancer among American men and the third leading cause of cancer deaths among men. It is estimated that 1 out of every 11 American men will develope prostate cancer during his lifetime. Each year, over 100,000 new cases are diagnosed and more than 28,000 men die from the disease. The Warning Signs of Prostate Cancer In the very early stages of prostate cancer, there are usually no symptoms. When syptoms do develope, they vary according to the location and the size of the tumor. Often, the symptoms are the same as those for benign prostate conditions. In fact, it is more likely that any of these symptoms would indicate prostate enlargement, or other conditions rather than cancer. Any symptom should be checked by a physician. Because of early detection and medical improvements, the survival rates for all stages of prostate cancer have steadily improved over the last 50 years. In just the last 20 years, the overall 5 year survival rate for all stages of prostate cancers has risen from 48 to 71 percent. Don't let prostate cancer cut those precious years short.
