Well, the I'm O.K. Program is a unique and outstanding service for the senior and disabled citizens of Beaver County. With 32% of the county population at age sixty and over, Medic Rescue knew there was a need for this program. The program has been instituted within twenty-five multiple person housing centers in Beaver County. Residents are given door hangers to hang on the outside of their doors. One side of the hanger is dark blue and states, "I'm O.K. P.M." The other side is orange and states, "I'm O.K. A.M." Each morning when the residents wake up, they turn the hangers so that the orange side (the A.M. side) faces out. Each evening they turn it around so that the dark blue P.M. side shows. Floor captains who are volunteers picked by the residents check the doors every morning by 9:00 a.m. and each evening by 9:00 p.m. If the hanger is not in its proper position, the floor captain knocks on the door to check the resident. If there is no answer, the manager of the housing center is notified and a check is made on the resident inside the apartment. The program was instituted in the multiple housing centers through meetings to explain the program to the residents. Medic Rescue works with the residents to start the program and checks with the captains to insure that there are not any problems. The necessity of the program was evident to Medic Rescue due to the number of incidents where a patient had been injured or sick for hours and sometimes days, needing medical attention, but unable to get help. The I'm O.K. Program works! There have been several incidents when a door hanger has not been turned around and the occupant did indeed need assistance. The hangers cost only $.30 each, but they are worth millions to the resident. This program is just another way that Medic Rescue has reached out to help citizens of Beaver County, proving that "Nobody Cares For You Like Medic Rescue!"
